One of my favorite theatre professors died today. We don’t realize that when we leave college, that might very well be the last time we ever see or speak to our former educators. We’re in such a hurry to make our jail-break, we don’t properly close the door behind us, and many of us rarely say “thank you” on the way out. I’m now left with a strange feeling—an unsettling emotion of regret and gratitude.
So to Allen Oster, the man who taught me “it’s all about choices,” I’d like to say thank you for being a key influence during my years of higher education. I will never forget you.
So in conjunction, even though my theatre days are long gone, here’s some show tunes that have stayed with me.
I Believe from Book of Mormon
What More Can I Say from Falsettos
Dentist! from Little Shop of Horrors
Back to Before from Ragtime
I Wanna Be a Producer from The Producers
One Day More from Les Miserable
What I Did For Love from A Chorus Line
How Lovely to be a Woman from Bye Bye Birdie
Rose Tint My World/I’m Going Home from Rocky Horror Picture Show
Finale B from Rent
And EVERYTHING from Hedwig and the Angry Inch (the original motion picture soundtrack)
